Lil Rose Interview
Who are some of your biggest influences?
“My music influences are always changing with my life. My first artist influence was Kanye West in 2008 after hearing 808s and Heartbreak. It was some of the most beautiful melodies and songs I'd ever heard. Street Lights is still in my top 10. I also loved pop music / pop culture so I was heavily influenced by Miley Cyrus, Lady GaGa, Ke$ha, and Rihanna. Later as a teenager, I was most influenced by Jhene Aiko & Odd Future. Jhene's songwriting and the beats she records on are something I'll always aspire to create. On the flip side, I loved how crazy OF was and their come-up story was really inspiring, especially since I was living in LA at the time. Right now, my biggest influences in music are Juice WRLD and Flo Milli.”
What is it like growing up in the Washington music scene? ( If you did not grow up in Washington where did you grow up and what's different compared to the Washington music scene)
“I'm from Denver, CO but I grew up in a few different places. Although Washington's music scene is the first one I've been part of, I got to experience the scene for a while in LA. One thing for sure is Washington loves their local artists. In my opinion, it's more of a challenge in Cali to get the opportunity to do something like shows. You have to be a lot more established or really be with the right crowd. I feel like it's almost regular as a WA artist to start doing shows after releasing music. I think the venues, bars, and community really support us which is amazing.”
What are your interests outside of music?
“So I started modeling to get my image out for my music, and now it's become something I like to do regularly. It's another form of expression for me. I edit all my photos and videos which I love doing. I also started go-go dancing at the beginning of the year so dancing in general has become a hobby of mine.”
“How would you describe your music to someone who has never listened to you?
I'd describe my music as energetic, fun, hip-hop with pop inspiration.”
What does music mean to you?
“Music is literally my life, so to me, it's everything. Music is a huge part of my parents' lives too so it's been around me forever. My dad has been playing guitar and singing in different bands since the 80s and was even touring different states when he was my age. My Mom and Dad were taking me to concerts as young as 4 years old. Personally, I've been writing songs since elementary school and I've always wanted to do what I'm doing today.”
What can fans expect from you within the next 3 months?
“I'll be working on my first ever project that I plan on dropping in the spring or early summer. I'm super excited to be creating again now that I've found some great producers. Shout out my guy D-Light Beats, @dlightbeats on the gram, I'm primarily working with him and it's been dope. His beats are letting me get into my creativity and explore new sounds. Be ready for it.”
What song would you recommend to someone who has never listened to you and why?
“I'd recommend "No Hands" by me and Koyote Jag, who's an artist out of Albuquerque, NM. It's my most recent release so I think it shows where I'm at creatively and what the sounds will be like on my upcoming work.”
Where do you find inspiration?
“I find inspiration in real life situations, especially when it's about love or I get hurt. I'm always overthinking situations so I'll write songs or freestyle. I'm pretty emotional so I get passionate when I'm in my feelings and I end up writing my best.”
Do you prefer to record during the day or night and why?
“It honestly depends on what the vibes are. If I get a new beat from my producer regardless of the time, and the beat is lit, I'll immediately start recording so I can capture that energy. My voice is best in the mornings so I'll try to do final recordings of tracks then.”
If you could get a feature from anyone right now who would it be and why?
“I'd love a Doja Cat feature for sure! She's one of the dopest female artists doing it right now. Lyrically and versatility wise, you can't touch her.”
Last question, do you have any advice for people wanting to step into the music “industry?
“My advice would be to have a clear vision of what you want and don't forget what you're doing it for. It can be hard to navigate the industry, so always trust yourself and your vision before you listen to anyone else.”
“Thank you Born Dead Entertainment!”
