SPACECADET!!! INTERVIEW

Who are some of your biggest influences?

“Of course, we start with this question! Ok so my biggest influence right now is Icytwat, but throughout my life I would it’s Odd Future, Chief Keef, Soulja Boy, and Playboi Carti.”

What is it like growing up in the Seattle music scene?

“Well, I wouldn’t say I grew up in the Seattle scene. I didn’t really know we had one until I was 20. I’m 26 now and I’ve been paying close attention to the scene and i honestly loved every second, so I had to do whatever it takes to get involved. I start making music when I was 21. Rapping and making beats and whatnot, and ever since then, it’s been making a positive influence on me. Seattle has such a diverse scene that you really can’t put a category on it, there’s no general style because there are so many unique ones.”

What are your interests outside of music?

“Mainly clothing right now I’ve been trying to start a little side clothing brand and I think I’m getting a grip on what kind of clothes I wanna make and I just have ideas going through my head all the time and it’s honestly been a waste that I haven’t like put into the public eye. So yea that’s what I’ve been doing outside of the music.”

How would you describe your music to someone who has never listened to you?

“I don’t know to be completely honest. I hate putting my own work into categories because it’s different every time. I could say it’s this but the next thing it could be that. So I just tell people to listen and let them tell me what they describe it as. A lot of people give me some interesting answers.”

What does music mean to you?

“EVERYTHING! Literally everything! You can take everything away from me. All my worldly items and possessions. But the one thing I cannot love without is music. Music is me. Music is what I grew up with. Music is the one topic I can talk about nonstop. Music. Is. Everything. To. Me.”

What can fans expect from you within the next 3 months?

I got a show in Bellingham coming up make sure you come out for that it gonna be lit me and the gang are going crazy. I’m also working on finishing my tape. I haven’t dropped a single song in almost 3 years so I’m getting back on track with that. And hopefully, I throw another Hentai Heaven before the year-end, if early next year for sure. Also, I’m working on a collab ep with one of my favorite rappers/producers. I’m not gonna say who it is just yet.”

What song would you recommend to someone who has never listened to you and why?

“96” a lot of people really like that song. I made the beat for that and I didn’t write anything down on that song it has really good energy. People also really like “RAYGUN” one of the first songs I used auto-tune on. I had a video for it but I never dropped it… oh well. And my personal favorite right now that’s out is “MTV.”

Where do you find inspiration?

“Just being around all the people that I’ve met and connected within the music scene out here. There are a lot of greatly talented and, warm-hearted artists out here. And most importantly my friends. They encourage me to take my music to the next level and honestly I’d be upset if I let them down.”

Do you prefer to record during the day or night and why?

“It doesn’t matter, to be honest. The only thing is if I record at night I’d have to do whatever it takes to stay awake. I get tired easily around a certain time.”

If you could get a feature from anyone right now who would it be and why?

“Realistically, I’d get a feature from Jay Storm. I’ve already asked him for one all I gotta do is pay the price, so that’s coming up soon. And my dream feature would be 2014-16 Playboi Carti, that’s my favorite Carti era and to have features from him back in those days would just make my life.”

Last question, do you have any advice for people wanting to step into the music industry?

“Just do it, man. One thing I’ve learned is that it’s all trial and error. To me, there’s no such thing as bad music because there’s always going to be that group of people that love your style of music. And your first couple of songs aren’t always the best songs but once you get used to it, it’ll all come to you! Don’t get discouraged. And be you.”
