Jammabands interview

Who are some of your biggest influences?

“My biggest influences are definitely X and Dro Kenji. In my music from around a year ago, you could definitely hear the Kenji influence but I feel that over time I’ve kinda evolved that sound into something where I can call it my own sound by just experimenting vocally while also using a variety of beats that are different than a typical Kenji song. I really wanted to separate myself from sounding like anyone else because it’s tough being able to progress in music while being compared to someone else’s sound.”

What is it like growing up in the Washington music scene?

“To me, the Washington music scene is super different from anywhere else. I feel like there is so much range with what kind of music you hear here. It can go from west coast rap to pluggnb which I love about it. Everyone here that makes music has shown love which I appreciate. But another thing I’ve noticed is that I feel really overlooked and people don’t take me as serious when it comes to Washington music. I just wanna play a greater role and I hope that comes soon, I just gotta work harder.”

What are your interests outside of music?

“Outside of music, I feel like I’m just a regular dude for real. I go to school, hang out with friends, I will be watching movies, playing video games. Stuff a normal 17-year-old kid would do. I wouldn’t say I have a particular interest, I just like living life and making things worth it before I’m old.”

How would you describe your music to someone who has never listened to you?

“My music wide range of things, it’s melodic mainly, with a newer age element. Combining elements from the trap with pop music.”

What does music mean to you?

“To me, music means a way to express myself to someone without directly telling them. If I feel some sort of way or if I’m going through something, it’s how I communicate with the person who made me feel that way at that moment. As cliche as it sounds, it really is therapy to me.”

What can fans expect from you within the next 3 months?

You can see me experimenting a lot more with my sound. I feel like as I’m going through this era of my career. Ima takes a more mature approach and professional way to the sound but that doesn’t mean it’s gonna take away from what I’ve been doing. You can expect big things for sure. I really feel like this could be a big step for me going forward.

What song of yours would recommend to someone who has never listened to you and why?

“I would definitely recommend the song yesterday. It’s for sure my biggest song and I think it’s a song that anyone could listen to it’s a good starting point if you’re new to my music.”

Where do you find inspiration?

For the past few years, I’ve just used experiences that really affected me in a lot of different ways. As I said, a lot of my music is like me speaking to a specific person so I guess you could really just assume what I mean by that. If you listen to the lyrics of every single one of my songs, you’ll be able to hear certain things I say that could be towards something or someone.”

Do you prefer to record during the day or night and why?

“I prefer at night just because it’s a lot easier to be less distracted. The vibes are also amazing when you wake up the next day and listen to what you made.”

If you could get a feature from anyone right now who would it be and why?

“For sure Kenji because our voices and flows would complement each other so well. I think we’d make an insane song together.”

Last question, do you have any advice for people wanting to step into the music industry?

“Just go for it and tell your truth in your songs. Don’t overthink anything and just grind. Something’s gotta give, just be persistent and keep working at getting better with each song. Also, don’t worry about other people's speed of growth. Everyone’s path is different and you don’t need to put yourself down if you see someone else going up faster.”
