Noah Interview

Who are some of your biggest influences?

“My biggest influences are Travis, Kanye, Carti, Frank Ocean, Donald Glover, Tyler, and lately Lucki.”

What is it like growing up in the Washington music scene? ( If you did not grow up in Washington where did you grow up and what's different compared to the Washington music scene)

I didn't really grow up in WA, but I def grew up in the scene out here. I started going to Toe Jam's when I was too young to even get in, and I spent a lot of my first couple of years just tryna be outside and meet people and see what Seattle had to offer. The scene out here is hella varied though, with so many people trying so many different sounds with different levels of success all around. I'd say the main thing I learned through coming up around here but not living directly in Seattle or nothing is that there's hella politics and bullsh*t that truly bring us down. If it was half as much goofing around and twice as much n***** making fye a** music I bet it would be way easier to put Seattle on the map. But in every corner of WA there are still some talented a** creatives yet to be found.”

What are your interests outside of music?

“Uh. Sh*t. Outside of music, I guess I be doing normal stuff I play Xbox and shit, I be watching anime and sh*t. I don't know, really. I guess outside of music I edit videos and sh*t, like some of my videos were edited by me or whatever. And like I make all my cover art, usually, so like I guess editing and graphic design? But dat shit sound lame, so I'ma say outside of music I like to smoke zaza. That a make everyone think I'm cool like sh*t.”

How would you describe your music to someone who has never listened to you?

“I basically just sound like worse Pierre Bourne. Like if you ever listened to Pierre, I'm just like that, but like not as good in every area that counts. But nah for real, I don't think my music can be explained easily by myself, to me it's just like my personality at this point. Like I do a bunch of different genres and sounds overall but each time it still sounds like "noah" to me, you know? I don't know dawg, I'm high, my fault.”

What does music mean to you?
Music is really cool. When I was a kid I ain't even think I would be a rapper, I definitely thought I was gonna play in a band like play guitar or something. But then I found out guitar was hella hard to play, so I just gave up on that. Later on I ended up rapping on accident, which is weird because both of my parents were rappers. And that's how they met. Lil group called C.O.M. Unit. The C.O.M. stands for Chapter Of Madness which I think is hard as f*ck.”

What can fans expect from you within the next 3 months?

Sh****ttttt. Next 3 months? I can promise you at least some songs. I could edit a video or two it depends if I have time, but I'm definitely working on trying to drop and make more music consistently again. Hopefully, I actually do that, but most of y'all won't read this interview anyway so I'm not gone be held too accountable.”

What song would you recommend to someone who has never listened to you and why?

“Damn brother, first song? Honestly, a favorite of mine is called Yung Southside. Genuinely one of the best songs I ever made and it was on my first album/EP/thing, and I've never made anything like it again. Of course, most everyone would say AGIRLISAGUN, because that sh*t crank and because it's my biggest song. I'd say don't listen to that, because everyone already listens to it. Find like, any other song by me that has a cool title to you, I'm sure it's prolly good.”

Where do you find inspiration?

“My biggest avenues of inspiration probably come from the media I've consumed and the friends that I've made and experiences I've seen. I don't really say a lot of it verbatim in my songs, but I think just living life and doing things that you care about is the best source of inspiration your mind can attach itself to and recollect. And that's all rapping is to me for real, is just recollecting sh*t that I can say poetically but like, I don't really draw from things that I can't relate to, and the easiest thing I can relate to is my own experiences.”

Do you prefer to record during the day or night and why?

“Honestly probably the nighttime for real. Like really really late into the morning, those sessions will always usually end up being something real special. And if not it at least feels endless like you could go forever by the time it's already middle of the dead of night. Most freeing time in my opinion.”

If you could get a feature from anyone right now who would it be and why?

“Truthfully, a Travis feature probably. Like it's not a cheat code or nothin' to success like Frank Ocean or Carti or Ye, but it would definitely be a bucket list type jawn that I wouldn't have to worry about anymore and for me that's worth it.”

Last question, do you have any advice for people wanting to step into the music industry?

“DON'T. Nah I'm playin, we just don't need any more of y'all tryna rap cuz it's already too many of us to all make it. I'd probably just say the usual media answer but I genuinely mean it so don't misunderstand me. Just be yourself. I genuinely think that even when you hear that all your life you still think there's a better version of you that you have to kind of craft and uphold for people but I'm telling you genuinely being yourself is one of the craziest most rewarding things music ever did for me. Like I'm still not all the way there, but growing up these past few years and making music I've learned to be more myself than I ever was and it's all because I let myself be who I was and through that I was able to see why that's worth it. People showed me that who I was deep down was actually not that weird or lame or whatever and I actually for the first time in my life saw myself for who I could be rather than what I thought I was. So, I don't know. Like you don't gotta tell everyone all your business, but the less persona you have and the more true you play it the more you start to feel like an artist and less like just a "rapper." Or something, I don't know dude I'm just some n**** for real.”
